The Money Box Making Process

The Money Box Making Process - Step 1

Step 1 - Each money box is made using a slab and coil technique. Firstly a slab of clay is rolled out and cut to form the base shape.

Step 2 - Next balls of clay are rolled into lots of long coils or sausages. The coils are carefully stacked up on top of each other following the starting base shape.

Step 3 - After stacking about 6 rows of coils, the next step is to smooth all the coils together. This process is repeated with the position and length of the coils being carefully changed to build up the final shape of the money box.

Step 4 - The money box is sealed at the top with further coils, leaving the inside hollow.

Step 6 - Next the money boxes are fired in the cupcake kiln, then individually hand painted with at least two coats of lustrous glazes before being fired in the cupcake kiln one more time.
